Are German Bunds Safe — the mechanics
Germany’s fiscal reputation and euro-core status keep demand high. That can mean lower yields — i.e. you pay for safety. Duration can still produce negative years.
German federal credit in euro is the euro area’s quality benchmark. Mark-to-market safety is a duration question. 2022 hurt long bunds too.
Euro break-up scenarios are political science, not this page’s forecast. A bund pays euros. Your spending currency is the other half of ‘safe’.
Negative-yielding bunds were still ‘safe’ credit and still lost purchasing power. Those are different sentences.
Official sources (Germany — Bunds)
Primary statistics and prospectuses for Germany — Bunds are published by the issuer, not by this newsroom. The labelled links at the end of this page go to those official sites (DMO, TreasuryDirect, Finanzagentur, MEF, AFT, SNB or ECB as relevant).
Our live board is a teaching overlay: dated prints, named sources, estimated ISIN lines. It is not a replacement for the issuer’s calendar.
Ключові висновки
- German federal credit in euro is the euro area’s quality benchmark.
- Prices and yields change. When this site quotes them, it dates them on the live board.
- Credit of a G7 government in its own currency is not the same as a stable screen price, and not the same as a bank deposit.

- Long bund prices fell as yields rose from negative/low levels, like other duration assets. Credit remained intact.
