What Are German Schatz Bonds — the mechanics
Think of Schatz as Germany’s 2-year. They track ECB rate expectations more tightly than a 30-year bund. Useful as euro cash-plus, not as a long duration bet.
Schatz (Bundesschatzanweisungen) are the short federal line, about two years. They are the ECB-policy end of the German curve, not the 10-year bund in miniature.
Price volatility is smaller than a 30-year bund. Reinvestment is more frequent. Credit is the same issuer.
Money-market funds and banks use Schatz as high-quality short paper. Households can hold them; they should not expect 10-year bund yields.
